Honey, Herbs, Highs & Homemade Vanilla Sugar
I don’t know about you but I’ve got this really weird feeling in the pit of my stomach now that things are starting to re-open. Is it safe? Should we be worried? Can I hug my friends?! I am very excited for the businesses of Windsor-Essex county that finally get to reopen (believe me… I’ve been craving an Anchor London Fog!) and am looking forward to the day we get to experience all of the amazing places YQG has to offer.
Here’s a few things you missed last week:
Prime Minister Justin Trudeau stated that social distancing measures are still in place and that you should wear a mask if you aren’t able to be 6 feet away from people. The masks should be fit to your face, covering your nose and have two layers of protective cloth.
Tourism Windsor-Essex launched a collab with BB Branded to sell #YQGStandsStrong t-shirts. Each t-shirt is $35 and $5 from each sale will be going to the WE COVID Cares Coalition operated by the United Way.
Lemon Soul Studios re-launched a podcasting course called Podcasting 101. If you’ve been thinking of starting your own podcast, this course will take place virtually on Saturday May 30th, from 11am to 1pm. It’s only $50 and Sierra will teach you everything you need to know from marketing and branding to recording and promoting.
So… throughout quarantine, I’ve come across some really great windsor-essex products that I’ve added to my… uh… I guess you could call it a wishlist? I want to share those products with you today so that you can scoop em up too! Where do I even start…
Let’s do BeeKeeper Food Wraps. I’m sure you can guess… but this product is a reusable food wrap made from local beeswax, jojoba oil, and tree rosin. Eryn, the owner of BeeKeeper Food Wraps wanted to be nicer to the world and teach her children that every little bit counts. She says, “It's a simple reason and a simple product, but they add up to one big step toward helping to keep our earth healthy and able to sustain the life it graciously holds.” If you haven’t checked them out yet, I’ve linked them in the show notes and blog post for this episode. Their wraps come in a variety of designs and are not only a great product but a feel-good one too. Not to mention, Eryn also offers DIY kits for you to create your own. OK. These are on my wishlist for sure!
The next product on my wishlist is tea from Simon Steeps. Simon Steeps provides organic, specially blended and handcrafted teas to suit all of your needs. They use only high quality organic ingredients in all of their blends so you can experience herbs in their purest form. Some of their tea blends include Less Stress (which let’s face it… we could all use!) Sleepy Time, Instant Immunity and Dandelion Detox. Yes, those weeds growing in your front yard are actually good for you… tea has been something I’ve gotten into recently and knowing that we have places like Simon Steeps right here in YQG makes me feel good about the products I’m ingesting. If you want to take a look, I’ve included their information in the blog and show notes as well.
Now this next one might seem a bit out of the blue, but I have some shrooms on my list. The non-hallucinogenic kind, I promise. The Magical Mushroom Hub is a retailer that focuses on… you guessed it… mushrooms. A lot of people don’t know that mushrooms have a ton of nutritional properties to them that almost act as a “medicinal cabinet within your fridge.” From exotic to wild & medicinal mushrooms, plus everything truffles… The Magical Mushroom Hub has one goal – to get you high on nutrition. Right now you can order all of your mushroom needs online and get home delivery. Not sure what mushrooms you need? Grab a Shroomster box. Before you know it, you’ll be calling yourself a shroomster too.
Just last week a new Instagram account opened called All on Board YQG and I thought to myself… hm, I think I should check it out. Boy, was I right. All On Board creates custom charcuterie boards… but they go above and beyond to take it to a whole new level. I’m talking CANDY CHARCUTERIE. For those of you that know me personally, candy is kinda my jam so a whole board of it is not only going to make me the happiest gal on earth… but also probably give me a headache. I guess that means these charcuterie boards are to share… All on Board is offering free local delivery. You just have to DM their instagram account to purchase. Don’t worry… I’ve linked their Instagram account in the blog post and show notes. You’ll want to check this one out!
Now, if you’re a fan of surprises (not me personally…) Windsor’s got a new thing that might be perfect for you. Mystery Box Windsor is exactly what it sounds like… a mystery… box. Choose a theme, send them a message and complete your order. It’s as simple as that. Boxes start at $65 and are filled with a ton of fun stuff. Take a peek and see if this is something you’d like to gift to someone this year!
The last thing I’m going to talk about today are cannolis. But let’s be real, who doesn’t love cannolis. My guess is the people that haven’t had them… but annnnnnywaaaays, a new cannoli shop has opened up in Windsor-Essex and they have very quickly made their way onto my shopping list. They are currently offering Traditional Almond, Vanilla Sugar, Chocolate Chip and Traditional Cherry flavours. But get this! The not-so-secret ingredient in these cannolis is the real, homemade vanilla sugar. No chemical compounds or artificial flavours. Now that’s something I can get behind. I’ve linked their instagram account in the blog and shownotes as well. Take a peek!
There are so many more products on my wishlist but you’ll just have to wait till next week to hear about them. In all honesty, I wish I had unlimited money to support all of these local businesses. Baby steps I say… before you know it, my home will be filled with only local products.
Before I sign off, you know the drill. I want to say thank you to bphilly888 for their review on Apple Podcasts:
What a great in depth look into Windsor!! So many great spots and hidden gems. She makes you remember every episode how fun this city really is. Can’t wait to get out and hit all the hot spots!
Your reviews always remind me why I do this and I’m so grateful for each of you who take the time to leave one.
Until next week Windsorites, comment, rate, like, subscribe and share with a friend! We have a huge giveaway coming soon and we can’t wait to share it with you. Stay safe, stay healthy and support local.
