Modern boxing has been around since 1904 and is considered an Olympic sport. This is a combat sport that uses a variety of muscles at one time. Kickboxing originated in 1950 and is a mix of boxing and karate. It is a stand-up combat sport based on kicking and punching. MMA also is known as Mixed Martial Arts is a full-contact combat sport based on striking, grappling, and ground fighting. MMA is a hybrid of boxing, wrestling, judo, jujitsu, karate, and Muay Thai. Indoor Rock Climbing provides a good workout, during this time you will build stamina, strengthen your muscles, and increase your heart rate to work your cardiovascular capacity. Rock climbing is an activity where people climb up, down, or across artificial rocks walls using a harness or going freestyle. This is a fun activity for all ages, and we have the amazing Windsor Rock Gym to guide us through.
Yoga is a group of physical, mental, and spiritual practices or disciplines with a broad variety of yoga schools. Various styles of yoga combine physical postures, breathing techniques, and meditation or relaxation. Some styles include Vinyasa, Hatha, Kundalini, Ashtanga, Bikram, Yin, and Restorative yoga. Pilates is a method of exercise that consists of low-impact flexibility and muscular strength and endurance movements. Pilates emphasizes proper postural alignment, core strength, and muscle balance. Powerlifting & Strongman – Powerlifting is a strength sport, powerlifters perform three competitive events: the squat, the bench, and the deadlift. Strongman on the other hand is a combination of functional movement patterns such as pushing, pulling, and pressing, providing real-world usefulness even if the objects are heavy. CrossFit is a form of high-intensity interval training. It is a strength and conditioning workout that is made up of functional movements performed at a high-intensity level. What makes this sport so interesting is that it encompasses movements from many different sports including Olympic lifting, Gymnastics, Strongman, Powerlifting, HIIT among others. Gymnastics is a sport that typically involves exercises on uneven bars, balance beam, floor, vaulting horse, parallel bars, rings etc…Gymnastics is a fun activity that is the foundation for all sports and physical activity. Gymnastics teaches participants how to move, roll, jump, swing, and turn upside down. It is great for general fitness, coordination, agility, strength, balance, and speed. HIIT / Functional Fitness – HIIT or High-Intensity Interval Training is a cardiovascular exercise strategy alternating short periods of intense anaerobic exercise with less-intense recovery periods. Training studios usually mix aerobic and resistance training. HIIT produces many of the same health benefits as other forms of exercise. These include lower body fat, heart rate, and blood pressure. Functional Fitness, on the other hand, train your muscles to work together and prepare them for daily tasks by simulating common movements you might do at home, at work, or in sports. Kettlebell – a kettlebell looks like a cast-iron cannonball with a handle on top, quite different than your standard dumbbell. They come in various weights and you use them as you do things like lunges, lifts, and shoulder presses. The workout gets your heart pumping and uses up to 20 calories per minute. Kettlebell workouts can improve your strength, cardio, stability, power, endurance, and balance. Kettlebell training contributes to a healthier lower back, owing to the loading and movement patterns. Barre is a form of physical exercise, usually conducted in group classes. It is distinguished from other group fitness as it incorporates the use of the ballet barre and movements derived from ballet. Barre is inspired by elements of ballet, yoga, and Pilates.
